How to Choose the Right CBD Oil for You

CBD oil products are steadily gaining in popularity and the products and product demand looks set to stay. As the cannabis industry grows, so does the variety in different products.

Hemp produced CBD oils are legal and do not contain THC. These CBD products are paving the way for a rapid shift in public opinion as well asmainstream knowledge about marijuana.

And with all aspects of the cannabis industry (products, services and research) looking set to grow, there are many potential businesses and entrepreneurs looking to get involved. While this in itself is not negative, the potential for successful business could attract opportunists. This is present in almost every manufacturing industry. These are the companies that seek to maximize profit in every possible way, including comprising the quality of a product.

Not all CBD Oil or Cannabis Products are Made Equally

There are various factors that determine the quality of CBD products:

  • CBD Extraction process
  • Full-Spectrum or Isolate
  • Company’s Transparency and Clear Communication
  • Manufactured in the U.S under the Agriculture protection
  • Third party testing
  • Where the hemp is sourced from (soil, industrial grade, etc.)

While there are more identifying factors that determine the quality of your CBD oil, the above-mentioned ones are the most important.

To assist you in finding the best hemp CBD oil, ask the following questions:

  1. Where does the Hemp come from?

The best quality CBD oil comes from all natural hemp. Hemp is a plant that absorbs all the minerals, chemicals and metals that are in the soil which it is growing in. This is why it is imperative that your chosen cannabis product is sourced from quality hemp grown in regulated soil. Preferably, look out for CBD oil that has been grown in organic soil free of any GMO’s.

Keep the following in mind:

  • Companies that have information on the source (and soil) of the hemp readily available are more trustworthy. The information should be easily located on their website or via customer service.
  • If it is difficult to locate this information then be aware that the company could be using hemp to produce the CBD oil that should be avoided.

  1. Which Extraction Method is Used?

How the cannabinoids are extracted is of critical importance when locating the best quality CBD oil.

Consumers searching for CBD oils online may notice a large price discrepancy amongst competitors. This could be for a number of reasons. However, there are a few different extraction methods that can be used and some extractions methods are cheaper than others.

And no, not all extraction methods create the same quality product.

Some extraction methods use potentially harmful substances and chemicals such as butane and propane.

How the brand or company extracts the cannabinoids should be clear. The two extraction methods considered to be best are:

  • Ethanol extraction
  • Supercritical CO2 extraction

Ethanol Extraction

The FDA has classified Ethanol as a class 3 solvent. This means that it has a low risk for toxicity. The Ethanol extraction process is praised as being efficient and effective while producing a pure cannabinoid extraction without compromising the cannabinoids themselves. However, the ethanol extraction method does allow more chlorophyll and plant matter to be extracted.

Supercritical CO2 Extraction

This extraction method is acommonly used method. Although the equipment and process can be complicated, the resulting extraction is considered to be pure and free of unwanted substances and plant materials. This method is considered to be a However, the purification process could compromise the cannabinoid and terpene profiles.

CBD oils that have been produced using the above two extraction methods are considered to be amongst the best quality CBD oils.

  1. Does the Company Provide Third Party Lab Results?

The most important factor of your CBD oil? What’s inside of it.

Ask for third-party lab results if the company does not readily provide them. Ensure that these results are recent and up to date. Additionally, research the lab that has performed the test to ensure that the lab is reputable and trustworthy.

The companies that provide high-quality CBD oils are ready to share these results and use the outside testing to self-regulate, ensuring that their products adhere to quality requirements.

Somecompanies make sweeping claims about the cannabis products that they are producing and selling. Unfortunately, this is a good way to market the product and does not always reflect the actual validity of the products. Reviewing third-party tests is the only sure way to know what is inside the product.

  1. What is the CBD Concentration?

Once you have found a CBD oil company or brand that you are satisfied with, the next step is to choose what CBD concentration is right for you.

Start with a low potency if you are new to using CBD oil. Most CBD oils are produced with three different sizes:

  • 250 or 300 mg – 7.5mg of CBD per dose
  • 500 or 600 mg – 15 mg of CBD per dose
  • 1000mg – 24 mg of CBD per dose

A single dose of CBD oil is, on average, 15 drops of oil. There is not a standardized dosage, it is rather a suggested guideline.

Low Potency CBD Oil:

Use this potency (250/300mg) if you are using CBD oil for the first time. The dosage potency can be increased as needed.

How to dose:

Start by using 5-7 drops of the oil, and hold the oil beneath the tongue for at least 45 seconds. This allows the oil to be absorbed by the mucous membranes located beneath the tongue. The active cannabinoids are transferred directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestivesystem.

Mid Potency CBD Oil:

500 or 600mg is a solution for consumers who use CBD oil to treat moderate symptoms.

High Potency CBD Oil:

This is the most potent CBD oil option. It is not recommended for consumers that are using cannabis oil for the first time.

How to know which strength is right for you:

It is important to understand that every consumer’s biochemistry is different. This means that everyone will have slightly different reactions to CBD oil. Start with the lowest CBD dose, and consciously assess the reaction. The dosage can be increased or decreased as needed.

A Note on Full Spectrum vs. CBD Isolate Oils

Full spectrum CBD is now believed to have higherefficiency than CBD Isolates. While this is still under debate amongst scientists, there is a growing body of research that suggests full spectrum CBD is indeed more efficient that CBD isolates.

However, this does not rule out the efficiency of CBD isolates. As full spectrum oils contain the full range of cannabinoids (including the psychoactive THC cannabinoid), some consumers may be unable to use these oils due to state regulations and aversions to the psychoactive cannabinoids.

CBD isolate products are developed using the purified single cannabinoid CBD. The question is whether or not CBD is as effective isolated as it is when used in combination with the other cannabinoids.

When you are choosing the right CBD oil for you, always choose quality products and speak to your trusted healthcare provider first, especially if you are currently on medication and/or want to use CBD oil to treat any existing illness or symptoms. There can be no official scientific claims that can be made for CBD oil and the effects of cannabis products still needs further clinical studies.
